After doing research and managing to speak to a victim of deepfake image based abuse I have decided to approach my project from a human interest angle. Specifically looking at someones personal experience , and then talking to others about the potential threat of this technology on everyday people, and the real impact it has on people's everyday lives and happiness if they are a victim of this type of abuse.
So far I have managed to speak to Noelle Martin from Perth Australia who is a victim of deepfake image based abuse, after years of the abuse getting progressively worse Noelle began to speak out about her experience. She presented a TedTalk called 'Sexual predators edited my photos into porn - how I fought back'.
After speaking to my supervisor Gloria, I have decided I also want to contact a charity that helps support victims of image based abuse to find out what can be done if this happens to you, as I am aiming my piece to at BBC radio 1xtra I will contact UK based charities although this is a global issue.
Finally I want to contact an AI expert to find out how easily the technology can be now accessed and if they have any concerns about the way the technology can/will be used in the future. I feel that speaking to someone who works with the technology will create a more balanced radio documentary as we can discuss the benefits of the technology as well as the dangers.
In my initial pitch I spoke a lot about the current law in the UK and wanted to focus on speaking to law experts about when changes will come into place. However I now feel that looking into someones personal experience will give listeners more of an understanding and connection with the Issues around this type of image based abuse.
